Buddy Class
Our Buddy class is Room 8.
On Friday they shared with us some amazing reading and writing they had been doing.
It all started with a news report on a tortoise called Torttie.
The children then read a journal story on Torttie and then wrote some amazing stories from the perspective of Torttie.
Other activities they did included drawing tortoise and learning about the tortoise.
These exciting things were shared with us. We felt very lucky to hear all about Torttie.

Thank You PTA
On Friday our Explore Galore was focussed on learning to take turns. This was linked to the school value of respect
It was great timing as we had just received some wonderful new wet day games thanks to the PTA. So we learned how to play our games.

It was such a beautiful sunny spring day we took turns with the chalk outside to create a spring picture.

Dancing Raisins

When the soda water was shaken
we could see lots of bubbles.

Look at the raisins floating. It looked like they were dancing.
When they got to the top the bubbles popped and the raisins
sunk again.

Wow - can you see all the bubbles?
We think they are gas bubbles.

R13 investigators are amazing. Their questions and predictions are very interesting and show they are really thinking about the experiments.

Harry the Rat
On Thursday Room 13 was observed during maths time. The observer was a rat who sat in the tree outside our room looking through the window.

This prompted a lot of discussion especially about how we could keep the rat away from school.
We talked about keeping our school clean and tidy.
On Friday we were discussing other ways to get rid of our rat and the children decided they would create rat traps. During Explore Galore this is exactly what happened.
The children were very enthusiastic with their inventions. They began questioning and adapting as they went.
"What do rats eat?" asked Sam
So we went off to the computer to research what rats eat. This led to additions of leaves and orange peels to the traps.
"Where do rats sleep?" asked Fadziso and Carise. Research for this led to soft nests being added to some traps. Some traps hung in the trees, some even had lady rats as decoys in them.
I was very impressed with the language, thinking, making and altering of initial ideas.

Researching what rats eat.

This hangs in the tree.

Leaves to lure the rat into the trap.

The rat crawls in here and gets stuck in the glue.

The rat comes in the tube and sees the lady rat so comes
up the nest up here then can't get out.

The cheese draws the rat in.

Well done everyone. Your thinking and questioning was exciting to see and hear.
