Foaming Fun

Today we had fun with some shaving cream... no not shaving... far to young for that!
We did shaving foam marble painting.
First we sprayed some shaving cream into a bowl and smoothed it over - just like icing a cake!

Then we added drops of food colouring - blue, yellow and red (the primary colours).

It was fun, especially when we swirled the colours together (making secondary colours).

Next we placed some paper on top of the foam. The foam and colours transferred to the paper. After we scrapped the foam off the paper was pretty colours.

Our focus today was helping others. We worked with a buddy at our activities.
The children helped each other - learn how to tie shoelaces, complete measuring activities and hold the marble run.

 Great job helping others today.

Masters of Manners

This week in Explore Galore we were learning to use our manners while we play and learn.
We discovered (well Mrs Hinman already knew) that Room 13 children are masters when it comes to using their manners.
Mrs Hinman heard wonderful manners like...
"Please could I have a turn?"
"Thank you for sharing"
And even... " I'm so sorry for getting paint on you Mrs Hinman."

We had lots of opportunities to use them as we ...
...painted our Hairy Maclary paper plate dogs.

We could choose to use a brush (using flicky stokes so it looked like fur)
or a sponge (dabbed on).

Some put white on top of the colour to make it look interesting.

The ears were placed differently on each dog so that they showed different
personalities.

Thank you Raeann and Connor for collaging Scareface Claw.
He can go on our door now with Hairy Maclary's other friends.

When you play a board game you need to remember to use your manners
too. Well done boys.
Book week was so much fun. Thank you to everyone who helped to organise all our school activities.

Book Week, Book Characters

R13 was filled with amazing book characters that came to life.
Check out the photos below.

Have you seen our decorated door?
Our classroom theme for the week was Hairy Maclary.
It seems that was a good choice as so many of the class know the books off by heart. One of my favourites too.

Make sure you have a look around at the other doorways around the school. They are amazing.

This is the Year 1 inquiry topic for the term.

Today we investigated ICE!
The children felt some ice without knowing what it was. They then discussed it with a buddy as to what they thought it was and why they thought that.
Some of the explanations can be found below.

Look at the predictions and questions our wonderful investigators came up with.

This afternoon we revisited our ice to find that our solid had turned into a liquid.
